Back in April we got a teaser trailer for Will Ferrell’s “Casa De Mi Padre,” a spanish-language action-comedy from his and Adam McCay’s Gary Sanchez production company. Now comes two new official posters, equally funny and retro. The taglines “From the gringos who brought you Anchorman” and “The Funniest Movie You Will Ever Read,” let us know that we are in familiar territory here in terms of the comedy level. Some suspected that this was a “serious” movie, which could’ve been inadvertently hilarious anyway.
However this is a tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek comedy, which is Ferrell’s specialty. Personally, I’m a fan. I don’t love all of his films, but he’s got more hits than misses these days. I could spend an entire day quoting “Anchorman” and “Taladega Nights” back and forth; or at least a really long Facebook thread.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancee, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).”
Directed by Funny or Die‘s Matt Piedmont, the pelicula will juego in theaters on March 16th, 2012.
